Several years ago I had the privilege to design an elegant old-world style home on Grand Lake for a couple of wonderful long time clients. I couldn’t have guessed that I would have another opportunity to design the same space again, years later for a new set of clients with a beautiful and fresh new aesthetic in mind. Our new clients envisioned this space as a place where they could escape from the hustle and bustle of their busy city life, and where friends and family could relax on holidays and weekends. They loved the idea of a nautical themed lake house that invoked a feeling of being permanently on summer vacation. We decided to use a simple blue and gray color palette with plenty of natural elements to keep the space feeling light and airy.
When planning the design of the entryway, we already had high ceilings, a beautiful wooden double door set and a wide spacious vestibule working in our favor. We kept it simple by adding a navy and cream trellis rug and an oil rubbed bronze chandelier to welcome our clients into their lakeside retreat.
The great room received a decidedly coastal vibe as part of the redesign. Gone are the old-world reds, warm undertones and ornate details of before, and in it’s place, a bright summery room fit for the Hamptons. The furniture, light fixtures, pillows, rugs, lamps and accessories were all hand selected through our showroom and ordered specifically for this space.
Between the living area and the kitchen is a narrow dining area. We incorporated a long farmhouse table here to maximize the use of the available space and to seat 10 in comfortable nailhead upholstered chairs. We added a beautiful chandelier that mimics the fixture selected for the entryway, and topped the table with a one of a kind floral arrangement.
The powder room got a quick refresh with florals and accessories from our showroom, and the cabinetry received the same whitewash wood stain as that of the great room.
The room directly off the entryway was transformed from an office to a beautifully appointed guest bedroom. This smaller room was somewhat challenging to design, but we were able to fit a king sized bed, two nightstands and a seating area in here with room to spare! It’s completely equipped to host guests for a fun lake weekend.
It was a joy to work with these sweet clients, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to design this beautiful home for the second time. It is so fun to work on projects where our team can bring a client’s vision to life and create a place where they can be comfortable and create happy memories with their families.
