Challenge: Create a modern, open space with a brighter interior palette

When the clients came to us for help modernizing their home, we knew exactly what we wanted to do: create an updated, bright, and cozy entry, living area, kitchen, and dining room. One of the challenges was the darkness of the space, and we wanted to create a light background, with just the right splashes of color and organic accents in the palette.
We updated the walls, fireplace surround and stair railing with paint to brighten up the interior and give the clients the updated aesthetic they were looking for. The dark floors wood floors and tile in the entryway were also swapped for new flooring with a subdued palette to further unify the space.

Before: Living room and fireplace

Before: Entryway and staircase

After: Living room is updated with a lighter and more modern color scheme.

After: Entryway is connected to the primary living space with contiguous flooring and furniture placement.

New chaise sofa has plenty of room for everyone in the family to cozy up and relax.

Living room layout with great flow, beautiful fireplace focal point, and gorgeous views outside.

New conversation area near the entryway maximizes a previously wasted space and gives our clients another area to relax with friends and family.

We were lucky that the client’s kitchen was in great shape functionally, and already had high quality cabinetry and countertops to work with. Our clients loved that their kitchen was fairly open to the rest of their main floor living spaces, and requested our help to modernize it and help it blend in better with the rest of the home.

Before: Kitchen is dark and dated.

We painted the existing cabinets a bright and pretty white, updated the backsplash, and added some fabulous textural barstools. We also updated the flooring to further help connect the kitchen to the rest of the lower level. On the other side of the island, we gave them a stunning dining area under a show-stopping branch chandelier. We love the clean lines of the chairs and the modern glass tabletop juxtaposed with the organic shaped table base reminiscent of sun bleached driftwood. Modern and cozy vibe achieved!

After: Gorgeous white and airy kitchen.

After: Pretty new dining room.

We chose decor to reflect the natural beauty of this home’s setting near Grand Lake. We had fun selecting this gorgeous chandelier for the space, along with other lovely pieces for side tables and coffee tables. In the lighting and many of the accent pieces, we intentionally incorporated organic shapes and natural elements to balance out of the clean lines of the furniture and modern artwork on the walls.

Our clients desired to transform their home from a dated house stuck in the 90s, to a peaceful and serene retreat they could enjoy for years to come. We helped them achieve this by incorporating light colors, cozy textiles, and an overall softness to the project. Our favorite part is that so much natural light infuses the space, it did half the job for us! We love also love the openness of the space and how inviting and comfortable it feels. The modern artwork that fills the expansive wall space with texture and beauty complements the furnishings and gives it the perfect finishing touch.

“Working with Nuance was fantastic! From the very first meeting to come up with a concept, and every interaction leading up to reveal day – Amber and her entire staff made us feel like family.
